Hybrid Batteries Can Have a Life After Cars

November 2nd, 2015 by

For the battery of a Toyota Camry Hybrid, there really can be life after death.

You see, when a hybrid battery “dies,” it doesn’t really die. It just isn’t strong enough to run a car all on its own anymore– a very energy-intensive process.

When combined with other faded batteries, however, these energy-stores can be used for providing clean, off-grid power to places in need.

Places like Yellowstone National Park.

Yellowstone was relying on noisy diesel generators to provide power to some of its remote outposts. Thanks to Toyota, however, solar panels have been installed, which will charge up 208 Camry Hybrid batteries, which can provide constant power to buildings day and night.

This is a brilliant strategy for reducing battery waste, and also weaning off-grid locations from fossil fuel.
